Kelsey & Matt

SAN JOSE DEL CABO    |    FEBRAURY 24, 2023

Schedule

TENTATIVE & SUBJECT TO CHANGE SLIGHTLY

  • When should I purchase flights for the wedding?
We're honestly not really sure but we would recommend holding off on purchasing flights for the next couple months until gas prices normalize a bit (writing this June 2022) more but would recommend using Hopper or Google to make the decision for yourself! Resources: Hopper app Google Flights Skyscanner Scotts cheap flights
  • When should I arrive? When are most people arriving?
Some folks are arriving the weekend of the 18th for a vacation all week. Others are arriving the day of the welcome dinner. Feel free to arrive whenever fits your schedule! Kelsey and Matt will be arriving closer to the 18th and will send out a schedule for places/activities to meet them at if you’d like to spend time together! Our hope is to make this a casual week spending time with friends and family but don’t have any expectations for when people show up. Please let us know when your flight arrival is and we can coordinate gatherings based on who will be around.
  • What airport should I fly into?
Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) Direct flights:
  • Would you recommend we rent a car?
If you’re planning to explore the region throughout the week, it might be nice having a rental to reach the region's beaches, parks, and activities. If you’re arriving the day before the wedding and only attending scheduled events, we wouldn’t recommend a car rental and would rely on Ubers/taxis instead since everything is located strategically close. San Jose del Cabo airport has most of the major car rental companies (enterprise, Alamo, Budget, etc) available. Rental services will operate similar to what you would expect in the US and reservations should be made online in advance. Resources: - Cabo car rentals 101 - Expedia Cabo buying guide
  • How much does a taxi from the airport to downtown San Jose del Cabo cost?
You should expect the cost of a taxi from the airport to the town of San Jose del Cabo to cost $25 USD one-way. The airport is about 15 - 30 minutes away from the airport itself. The airport has certified taxi drivers Ubers and Lyfts exist and operate in Cabo but aren't technically legal. The airport restricts them from picking up in their vicinity. More info from Cabo airport on transportation options HERE
  • Is Cabo san Lucas and San Jose del Cabo the same thing/place?
Nope! They are two very different places. Where you will be staying in San Jose del Cabo: it's a cute, artsy, and more traditional scene. Some describe San Jose del Cabo as the "older sister" compared to Cabo san Lucas where the crowd is rowdy, full of spring breakers, and somewhat similar to a Playa del Carmen or Las Vegas party scene. Cabo proper has the fancy, expensive chandelier bars while San Jose del Cabo has the mezcal distilleries and farm to table restaurants. Watch the videos below for a greater explanation!
  • How do taxis in the area work?
Local Taxis: Local taxis or quite abundant in the San Jose del Cabo area. You should be able to walk out to the street or reserve a taxi with your hotel front desk. Uber: Please consider that Uber is still somewhat new in Cabo so there are not plenty and it might take a few minutes to get there for you.
  • Is it safe to park a rental on the street in San Jose del Cabo?
No safety concerns regarding parking in the town of San Jose del Cabo! It can be difficult to find parking downtown during midday hours since it’s a popular destination but spaces open up easily again at about 10pm. If you're staying outside of town, consult your host or hotel. If you're staying at Drift, you can park on the street Avenida Centenario, super close to to the hotel, no problem. Drift does not have a parking space available specifically.
  • I don't know Spanish! Will it be difficult to navigate?
The Cabo region is extremely touristy and catered to English speakers. Our planners expressed that you shouldn’t have any issues with language barriers unless you’re driving quite far outside of the area. This is relevant for San Jose del Cabo, Cabo san Lucas, and Todos Santos.
  • Do I need cash/Mexican Pesos? How much?
San Jose del Cabo is “a small town but a modern town.” (our wedding planner says) You shouldn’t have any issue paying with credit cards and most vendors/restaurants actually prefer USD. When you do carry cash, our planners recommend carrying about 70% USD and 30% Mexican Pesos. It might be most helpful to carry smaller change. We would recommend exchanging in advance or pulling from an ATM after arriving to keep on hand for simple and small purchases or unique taxi cases. Resources: Bank of America: How to order foreign exchange money & Where to pick up
  • Do banks/ATMs exist in the area?
There are three banks in downtown San Jose (and a close walk from Drift hotel). You can also find ATM’s inside grocery stores. No reason to worry about this question.
  • What is the weather like in February?
From our planner: “In February it's hot when you are under the sun, but in the shade I think you will feel around 68-64 degrees Fahrenheit and maybe late in the night 53? so probably a sweater? Not a rain jacket, just a normal Jacket :) (for me that´s super cold because I´m not used to cold weather at all so maybe my "cold" it's just "chill" for you)” Average daily high: 81 F Average daily low: 61 F (so perfection)
  • What is the exchange rate (as of June 2022)
    20 Pesos = $1.00 USD
  • Where is the ceremony and reception happening?
Just outside of town at Tamarindos Farm to Table Restaurant. Address: C. de Las Animas s/n, Animas Bajas, 23407 San José del Cabo, B.C.S., Mexico Website: www.lostamarindos.mx/
  • Can I request a song for the weekend?
Yes please! Send to Kelsey/Matt over text or email. Or submit them here
  • How do I get to the wedding venue? Will there be a shuttle?
More details coming soon! We will provide more information on shuttles and transportation for the day-of as the time gets closer.
  • What does the wedding day of events timeline look like?
More information will be provided leading up to the event via email. Expect a late afternoon ceremony, evening dinner, and ‘out on the town’ after party
  • What is the dress code?
Cocktail or ‘dressy-casual.’ Casual and comfortable! Here's a full description: https://www.theknot.com/content/cocktail-wedding-attire
  • Can I bring children/babies?
Yes! You’re welcome to do so. We understand that children can be difficult to travel with so we’re thankful for the extra effort to do so. Matt and Kelsey obviously don’t have children so there are probably additional questions/concerns you have - reach out to ask and we’ll do what we can to help.
  • I have a plus one that I didn’t account for in my original RSVP, is there a way I can bring them?
Absolutely! Please let us know prior to January 1, 2023 so that our vendors can accommodate the request
  • I have dietary restrictions, help!
Please let us know what dietary needs you have for the welcome dinner and wedding reception in our RSVP and feel free to follow up via email with any extra concerns - we’re extra cautious and will make sure to have clear signage/communication.
  • Will there be vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options?
Vegetarian and gluten free options will be incorporated. Please notify us in the RSVP for extra needs.
  • When is the RSVP deadline?
Please RSVP by December 15th, 2022
  • How many guests will be attending?
We expect between 55 - 65 guests in total
  • Is there a wedding registry?
You can find our registry here. We don’t expect guests to carry gifts to the events - if you’d like to send something to us directly, feel free to ship to: Kelsey & Matt Houser 235 13th Ave East Apartment 102 Seattle WA, 98102
  • Drift Hotel: Is there parking for a car rental at Drift?
You can park on the street Avenida Centenario, super close to Drift, no problem but they do not have a particular parking lot
  • Drift Hotel: Are there baby amenities for young families?
Yes, they are baby friendly, the even have some baby beds. Let Kelsey know if you would like to request these and she can help coordinate.
  • Drift Hotel: Cancellation policies
If a guest shows up late or does not show up to reservation: If a guest with a reservation does not arrive on the first night of his/her reservation, that guest’s reserved room nights will be returned to the Hotel’s inventory. If the guest arrives on a subsequent night of his/her reservation, the guest will be accommodated based on availability at the rate then available, and revenue derived from such room nights (within the contracted pattern) will be counted towards the Group’s revenue obligations (charged to Kelsey/Matt) for the calculation of attrition. If there is an 'act of god' etc: No damages will be due for a failure of performance due to an act of God, war, terrorist act, government regulation, riot, disaster, or strike, provided said act or event makes performance hereunder impossible. If you cancel your reservation in advance, amount due is as follows:
  • Drift Hotel: What is the vibe of the hotel? Is it roudy?
Vibe: - Travel & Leisure - Spaces - Design Milk Thursday night is Drift's busy Taco Thursday night celebration with drinks and DJ's until about 10-11pm (we'll have our welcome dinner here before the crowd gets going). If you're sensitive to noise and concerned about a full night's rest, we would recommend an alternative stay with one of our hotels/airbnb from the list

Drift Hotel

THE HOTEL & WELCOME DINNER

Modern, surf, industrial, chic... how Matt and I would describe the look and feel of Drift. We chose this hotel for it's privacy, access to town, and amenities as we hope this serves as a comfortable and fun central location for our friends and family to gather. We have reserved every room for our guests.

Have questions about the hotel, what's included, and more?

Tamarindos

THE WEDDING AND RECEPTION

We chose this local farm to table restaurant as the location of our ceremony and reception for it's healthy, fresh, and local cuisine that feels true to the area but extra elevated.

Have an allergy? Please let us know in your RSVP. We are happy to connect you to their team to talk directly as well.

Dalton Gin Bar

THE WEDDING AFTER PARTY

Following the wedding dinner and a cocktail hour, we will be dancing the night away at Dalton Gin Bar. Located across the street from Drift Hotel, the open-air third floor bar looks across the center of San Jose del Cabo at the rooftops and churches in town. We will shuttle guests from Tamarindos to Drift Hotel & Dalton Gin Bar.

the region

SAN JOSE DEL CABO, MEXICO

Situated ~25 minutes from the airport and ~45 minutes from Cabo san Lucas, San Jose del Cabo is known as a laid back, traditional, and artistic alternative to the typical tourist hotspots of the region. We chose SJC for quite a few reasons but the food, landscape, adventure, and design stole our hearts! We built these guides and resources to help you fall in love as well.
